Tognum relies on inCharge for Software License Management
Tognum decides on company-wide use of inCharge for software license management.
In Tognum AG NovaTec wins another major customer for its license management software inCharge. The specialist for drive and energy systems uses inCharge company-wide for managing the licenses of all CAD applications and engineering tools in use – all-in-all more than 20 different software systems. With the use of inCharge Tognum essentially pursues two goals: the optimization of the license inventory and the targeted planning of future license procurement.

In times of increasingly distributed IT infrastructures it is getting more and more difficult for companies to stay on top of the deployed software. On one hand there are license bottlenecks, which limit output; on the other hand are rising costs for software licenses and updates that often aren’t used at all.
This is precisely why Tognum relies on the assistance of the inCharge solution: “During a six-month pilot phase we were able to identify existing bottlenecks and optimize them through appropriate licensing measures,” explains Manfred Härtel, Senior Manager for IT Applications for Sales and Development of Tognum AG. “After the optimization the utilization rate was at 85% without having to procure new licenses.”
inCharge also plays an important role for Tognum in the future planning of procurement and licensing. Recognizing trends in the usage patterns of its engineers is an essential basis for the targeted adjustment of licenses. The use of inCharge prevents both excess licenses and further license bottlenecks.
“inCharge is a professional software solution for the central administration and optimization of software licenses,” explains Hans-Dieter Brenner, managing director of NovaTec GmbH. “The integrated analysis functionality of inCharge allows clients to quickly optimize licensing costs and license availability, and to distribute the licensing costs fairly among the various cost centers. Optimization means costs savings in license procurement and maintenance while at the same time ensuring the actual license inventory necessary to prevent license bottlenecks. inCharge also provides proof of compliance with software licensing agreements.”
